The first institution originated
by God for man, marriage, is an institution that is universal to
all mankind, whether in formality, legality, or in practice; it
is real and universal. And that universality echoes God's words
that the man is not complete without the woman. [1 Cor. 11:11]
But in America and many nations the institution
of marriage is in serious trouble; that trouble is because of
the actions and behavior of mankind, not God. In many nations that human beings are
seeking alternative ways to satisfy their need for union. And it is
in trouble among God's people as well. If marriage trouble is not
the major problem facing God's people, it certainly is one that
demands our close and careful examination and serious attention because
of its profound impact on living a saved life. And because it has profound allegorical significance
to the relationship of Christ and the church.
It is because of the spiritual
importance of marriage, often overlooked, that I will address
this subject at length in a number of essays/sermons and, later, in a book
by the same title.
Let's look at marriage
in the following ways: I. The Biblical Origins of Marriage;
II. The Spiritual Significance of Marriage to Christ and
the Church; III. The Biblical Rules concerning Marriage;
IV. Marriages as They exist in our Churches; V. Children:
The Fruit of Marriage; VI. Parenting: The Sacred Responsibility
to Guide; VII. Wayward Children: Methods of Guiding; VIII.
Where did We go Astray in our Parenting? IX. The Marriage
as a barometer of Our relationship to God; X. Marriages of
Hatred, Disguised in Words of Love.
Many years ago, I wrote
a small book on marriage entitled, I Speak Concerning Christ
and the Church, and I will include some of the insights God gave
me then in this discussion.
Since this subject tends
to be touchy because so many Christians have disregarded the Word of God
concerning marriage, many will have serious problems with God's
word, as I rightly divide it on this subject. I will certainly allow
God's word to speak, and not me. And the word of God is
quick and powerful...[Heb. 4:12] If I misspeak or wrongly
divide God's word on this important subject, I ask that you, my
readers, please correct me.
If you have questions you
want covered in this discussion, please let
me know them. I must inform you, this ministry does not cover
pornographic or sexually explicit subjects. If there is such a
problem in your marriage, that is a matter individually counseled
about with a psychologist and possibly a minister; it is not for the explicit
teaching of this ministry. A number of requests have hinted about
this type of teaching; I will not engage those items on this site.
